Forbes, NSW (9 - 13 November, 2009)

Forbes is situated along the Lachlan River in the heart of the Lachlan Valley on the Newell Highway.  The Bushranger – Ben Hall used to ply his ‘trade’ around Forbes and he is actually buried in the Forbes Cemetery.   We stayed at the Forbes Country Club Caravan Park, small, quite and very clean.   Two places of interest to both of us were both to do with cars, the Mcfeeters Motor Museum and Utes in the Paddock. 

The Mcfeeters Museum is a private collection, only a few cars have been donated or are owned by other than the Mcfeeters family.  A purpose built classy ‘shed’ for want of a better word, is home to the vast collection of Veteran, Vintage, Classic and Street Machines.   A red and black T Model Ford which had been driven in the past by Mr Mcfeeters to Alice Springs was also on display. On display are many other Fords, A and Ts, Zephyrs.  Also, two highly modified XPs – for display only, never intended to be driven.  One highly prized XR GT and one each of the XW and XY GTHOs.  One V12 early model Daimler of which 38 was ever made, looked as shiny and new as the day it was bought; no alterations had been made at all by the previous owner.  So many wonderful old cars, we had a fantastic time looking over them all. 

We were lucky and had a personal tour by Mr Mcfeeters as he was on site the day we were at the museum.  In the photo (above left) is a Japanese Hearse, a modified Lincoln Continental looks stunning, as you can see.
